Cruz Suggests Kasich Drop Out of ‘Two-Man’ Race Against Trump

Rubio lost in a Trump landslide in Rubio’s home state of Florida.

Cruz, now second to Trump in terms of Republican delegates, began appealing to Rubio’s followers to join an anti-Trump coalition, and also suggested that Kasich exit the race because it is mathematically impossible for him to win the GOP nomination. “I don’t believe Trump will ever be able to do that”.

Donald Trump warned Wednesday of riots if he is denied the Republican presidential nomination, after adding to his growing pile of primary wins but losing in the key state of Ohio.

It was another “super Tuesday” for Hillary Clinton’s campaign. While no such candidate has been identified, the participants in Thursday’s meeting planned to discuss ballot access issues, including using an existing third party as a vehicle or securing signatures for an independent bid.

Trump posted better overall percentages on Tuesday night than he has before – 46 percent of the vote in Florida, about 40 in Illinois, Missouri and North Carolina, and 36 percent in Ohio.

In fact one of Trump’s supporters said there would be riots if Trump didn’t win the nomination at the convention, though riots themselves “aren’t necessarily a bad thing”.

Clinton is already eyeing the general election.

John Boehner, the former speaker of the house, endorsed Paul Ryan, the current speaker, for that role on Wednesday.

The property magnate’s chances of winning the party’s nomination were boosted on Tuesday after critical victories in five state primaries. He leads Ted Cruz (406 delegates) and John Kasich (142).

Noting that he’s “representing many millions of people”, he told Chris Cuomo: “If you disenfranchise those people, and you say, “I’m sorry, you’re 100 votes short”…”

AP notes that Trump is the only Republican candidate with a realistic path to the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination before the July convention. More than half of GOP voters indicated they want an outsider to take over the Oval Office, with almost seven in 10 of those voters indicating a preference for Trump, according to preliminary results of the survey conducted by Edison Research for The Associated Press and television networks.

David Cohen, a political science professor at the University of Akron said the Kasich campaign will now be targeting Pennsylvania, which is not only the state where the candidate grew up, but one also similar to OH demographically.

In any event, the Republicans now have only a three-candidate race: Florida Sen.

Kasich, who has 142 delegates, needs an additional 1,095.

The Sanders campaign is assessing how the process works and hasn’t made a decision on whether to seek a recount. And his win makes it more hard for the other two candidates in the race to win the nomination.

Trump’s Florida victory brought his delegate total to 621. Cruz has 406 and Kasich 142. Rubio left the race with 168. Since the margin of victory in each case is less than 1 percentage point, CNN has not projected a victor in either contest.
