Cruz surges in key state polling, but national polling conflicting
The topic has come up in connection with calls from public officials to bar Syrian refugees from the US and Trump’s proposal to ban Muslims from immigrating to the U.S. A separate study found that 50 percent of voters would be “embarrassed” if Trump was elected. A new CNN poll adds fresh evidence to bolster the impression of Trump’s total dominance as 2015 comes to a close. But Cruz is also thinking ahead. Overall, 43 percent of Republicans think that event occurred to 29 percent who don’t.

Cruz is just one of the most recent candidates to try and challenge Trump for the top position at the polls after Ben Carson saw his support surge before pulling back shortly after.
Cruz gained ground on the front-runner on handling illegal immigration and ISIS, both a central focus of the debate’s questions, while Rubio and Carson faded on both issues. Donald Trump continues to lead among the pack of Republican Presidential candidates, but he only leads Sen. Other polling has suggested that these issues have become intertwined with one another in the minds of Trump supporters. “So it’s not a surprise that the latest controversy doesn’t seem to be hurting him at all”. “You see candidates go up, then go down”.
Ted Cruz trails at 18 percent – an improvement since the last CNN/ORC poll in November, but still a distant second to Trump.
Trump has 28 percent of the GOP pack, with Sen. The theory has been that Cruz has strategically aligned himself with Trump to absorb his supporters should he drop out. Cruz has the most momentum, picking up 11 points from his 14 percent standing in early November.
They’ve been chummy all year, but Trump predicted Monday it’s only a matter of time before he and Cruz clash. “I like Ted Cruz a lot”.
Among those who say the party has a better shot with someone other than Trump, Cruz is the preferred candidate, 25% would like to see him win the nomination, 16% Rubio, 13% Carson, 9% are Trump backers, 8% Kentucky Sen.
Cruz’ strategy of presenting a more sophisticated, better-pedigreed populist conservative iconoclast version of Trump looks like it’s working. Republicans with a high school education or less tended to favor Trump on the phone over online.
