The long-time front-runner is reportedly preparing an ad blitz that could reach $2 million a week in the state. “He has one and didn’t go”, Christie said at a town hall event in Iowa. That’s critical, as Trump is banking on turning out a diverse coalition of caucus-goers that haven’t historically participated in the process. “The question is whether the people they’ve identified as supporters will turn out”. This week, the son and brother of former presidents ordered scores of Miami-based staff to leave the office and hit the road in Iowa and New Hampshire. Communications director Doug Watts and campaign manager Barry Bennett have left allegedly due to a tussle with conservative radio personality Armstrong Williams, an aide who does not have an official role in the campaign.
The Texas senator also boasted of attacks heading their way from the Republican field as the latest sign of his political strength.
Carson will benefit from a plucky super-PAC that has been on the ground in Iowa since before he even announced his bid. The Republican caucuses drew about 120,000 voters in 2008 and 2012, about 20 percent of registered Republicans.
Bush has referenced Rubio’s attendance record before (he even tried and failed to attack Rubio for this in a previous debate), but the new ad suggests a shift in tone, one Team Rubio has clearly noted.
Cruz additionally has run a smart campaign thus far, avoiding the tussles with Trump that have damaged some of his opponents while appealing to the powerful evangelical wing of the party.
Still, the crowded lane will make it hard for any of these candidates to break away. By the time the New Hampshire primary votes are counted on February 9, the number of viable Republican candidates headed for South Carolina’s primary 11 days later will be smaller still.
Of these contenders, Rubio is easily the favorite. Ted Cruz surges in Iowa, the Republican presidential rivals are in a dead heat in CNN’s Political Prediction Market.
Grumbling national Republicans will have to throw in money to assure Boozman’s 55-45 victory, identical to Rubio’s margin over Hillary in the state.
Rubio has spread his bets to each of the carve-out states without committing to any one in particular. “That’s part of why the Washington establishment is panicking because they are used to having conservatives with no money, no ability to communicate where they can just swap them with false attack ads”, said Cruz at a press conference in Las Vegas, Nev.
“People are looking for more of a robust Rubio campaign”, said Craig Robinson, a Republican strategist in Iowa.
Bush’s strong infrastructure seems to have him set up to outperform his current standing in the polls, but his numbers are so low right now that it might not matter.

Rubio’s strategy is built on a preference for made-for-TV rallies and cable news appearances rather than the endless handshaking and baby-kissing that tradition suggests paves the way to the White House. Off-air, Secret Service agents approach Mrs. Clinton and discover that at some point during the campaign, she was replaced with a life-sized, pull-string wax figure of Cesar Romero’s Joker character from the 1960s Batman television series. That was the third-most missed votes in the Upper Chamber. I have no doubt that he will defend our religious liberty, our Second Amendment rights and our right to be free from unlawful government intrusion and control.
