Cruz v. Kasich: Race tightens for #NeverTrump candidate

There is no denying the dominance of Donald Trump’s performance in his home state of NY, in which he got 60 percent of the vote. On the other hand, Kasich, who has only 148 delegates, despite doing better than Cruz in NY, would need 1,048 delegates to win the nomination. He also grew hot talking about Ohio Gov. John Kasich, whose continued presence in the race Cruz acknowledged was hurting his ability to amass more delegates.

After Donald Trump’s big primary win in NY, his sole Senate backer says it’s going to be tougher for Texas Sen. With 559 total delegates, even across-the-board wins in the remaining 15 states wouldn’t grant him 1,237 delegates.

“Once you have 80 percent of the delegates, the idea that the 20 percent will deprive the 80 percent is not viable”, said Randy Evans, a member of the Rules Committee, who last week predicted that if Trump ended the primary season with 1,100 delegates he would be the nominee.

Trump, however, had no such reservations while speaking shortly after his NY win Tuesday night.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton won comfortably, as the polls and demographic analysis predicted.

Voters in Pennsylvania will directly elect those 54 delegates to the national convention Tuesday, but unlike most states, they will have no idea which candidate a delegate will support since the voter will only see a list of delegate names to choose from on their ballot. Trump now has 847 delegates and needs 360 more to clinch the nomination outright with 1,237 delegates.

A jubilant Mrs Clinton has spent the hours after her victory looking to the national election race.

After New York, candidates will set their sights on the northeast, with Pennsylvania being the big prize.

“Facts are stubborn things”, Cruz previously said on CNN. It represents more unpledged delegates than any other state has.

Over the next week, the candidates are expected to spend much of their time in the northeastern states.

We have a strong base of small dollar donors who give more funds, more often to Democratic candidates each cycle.

“We’re headed to a contested convention”. He has won one of the 41 contests so far – his home-state primary – and trails in delegates and the popular vote tally.

Ted Cruz has a math problem. Clinton was beating Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders 57 percent to 42 percent. “To me, I think it’s preferable to have a Republican nominee over Hillary Clinton”.
