“The 24-year-old was surprised to find himself hitting fourth in the lineup but he continued to do what he’s done since getting recalled August 18 “” collect extra-base hits. “I just try to put the barrel on the ball and wherever it goes, it’s where it goes”.

“PHILADELPHIA “” Other than rookie Odubel Herrera, it’s unclear who exactly will be in the Phillies’ outfield to begin 2016.

RHP Aaron Nola, Monday’s starter against the Nationals, pitched seven shutout innings to beat Atlanta 5-0 his last time out.

The Chicago Cubs tied things up in the seventh, but surrendered three unanswered runs late as the Philadelphia Phillies won by a 7-4 final Sunday. The Phillies (55-88) were swept by last-place Boston and lost two of three to reeling Atlanta during a stretch of seven losses in nine games.

The game was a pitchers’ duel until two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

“I was fighting it”, Haren said.

Cubs: C Kyle Schwarber, who has been battling an oblique/rib injury, didn’t play.

“I’ve readjusted my thinking (on that)”, Mackanin said.

Lefty Zac Rosscup gave up the big hit when Cesar Hernandez lined a three-run double into left-center field. It was Coghlan’s 16th homer this season.

I realize the Phillies won the season series against Chicago, but I feel like Maddon, if he were being completely honest, would be just fine with being in the same division as Philly this year. Garcia started the frame and faced three batters without recording an out and then left after Chris Coghlan’s two-run double pulled the Cubs within 5-3. “I was more concerned about being ready for that pitch”.

Howard is hitting.227 on the year, and while it’s a slight improvement on last season’s mark (.223), his on-base percentage is the lowest of his career (.276) (see Phillies-Cubs notes). Asher has allowed 17 earned runs in 14 1-3 innings. He said he’d consider pinch-hitting for Howard in a “game on the line type of (situation), where I think the game could be blown open”. The two teams split the four-game series.

Phillies: 3B Maikel Franco is hoping to return from a fractured left wrist before the season ends.

The only run allowed by the Phils’ usually porous bullpen would come in the seventh, when two errors – the most painful one Hernandez’s – would lead to the brief tie. Whatever team he’s on next September 12, hopefully not the Phillies, will get to find out.
