Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber was carted off the field after a collision against the Diamondbacks on April 7th. He only added to his cause in the opening game of a series against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday when he gave Arizona a 1-0 head start with a home run off John Lackey’s first pitch.
Trainers attended to Schwarber for several minutes, eventually helping him up as he favored his left ankle. Kyle took the blow to his leg and was later carted off of the field.
And while that could very well lead to time on the disabled list for Schwarber, it’s not almost as bad as it looked, as early reactions had people fearing he’d broken his leg.

Kris Bryant took over in left field upon Schwarber’s exit, with Tommy La Stella taking over at third. He’s a prototypical designated hitter, but playing in the National League means he needs to play in the field.
