Cubs reacquire outfielder Chris Coghlan from Oakland
Chris Coghlan, the former Ole Miss standout who revived his career with the Chicago Cubs, is back in the Windy City. 291 with two home runs and seven RBIs this season. This will be the 30-year-old’s second stint with the Cubs, as he saw 148 games with them last season and managed a respectable enough.250/.341/.443 triple-slash while swatting 16 homers and notching 41 RBI.

Coghlan, who was part of the Cubs playoff run past year, was dealt to the A’s for right-hander Aaron Brooks on February 25.
Coghlan this season appeared in 51 games, including 46 starts, with the Athletics, batting. It was just that there wasn’t really room for him now that they had Fowler back in center and could slide Jason Heyward to right field, where he belongs. The Cubs definitely have the depth to absorb the injuries, but Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer believe in having nearly too much depth.
Kris Bryant has played in left field with Schwarber out and Soler struggling before his injury, but the addition of Coghlan will allow manager Joe Maddon to move Bryant back to his natural position at third base on a regular basis. Over two seasons in which he was moved between the majors and minors by both teams, Brooks posted a big-league 8.38 ERA and 1.76 WHIP.
Alcantara has spent this season at Triple-A Iowa, where he hit. He’s only hit. 194 with 11 doubles, 10 homers and nine steals in 81 career Major League Baseball games, but he’s flashed great upside in the minors at times, even working his way into top-100 prospect lists prior to 2014.

According to the San Francisco Chronicles’ John Shea, Alcantara will be reporting directly to the A’s Triple-A affiliate Nashville Sounds.
