Cubs reportedly complete trade with Yankees for Aroldis Chapman

Aroldis Chapman certainly will secure wins for the Chicago Cubs on the field but chances are he and the team will be losing off the field in terms of morality.

The Yankees initially acquired Chapman for prospects Rookie Davis, Eric Jagielo, Tony Renda and Caleb Cotham last December.

“We are also aware that he cooperated fully with the league investigation and takes responsibility for his actions”, the statement continues. NY acquired Chapman from the Cincinnati Reds this offseason after a deal between the Reds and the Los Angeles Dodgers fell apart over the domestic violence incident. He threw a 105.1 miles per hour fastball to Baltimore’s J.J. Hardy last Monday night, matching the fastest since Major League Baseball began tracking speeds in 2008.

Chapman also added that he has learned from the incident. Torres, a shortstop, and McKinney, an outfielder, are considered to be among some of the best of the Cubs’ loaded farm system; Warren was a crucial swingman for the Yankees in his first three Major League Baseball seasons before getting traded to Chicago last December for Starlin Castro. Keith Law of ESPN.com recently released his midseason top 50 MLB prospects list and ranked Torres as the 26th-best prospect in baseball. There could be one more player coming from the Cubs in the swap. “I feel like part of the family here”.

“This was an easy call and this was the right call”, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said.

NY had won six of eight games heading into Monday night’s game at Houston, but still faces long odds of getting to the playoffs.

While Nova has yet to recapture that success in the years since, the Dominican Republic native could attract interest from a team looking to add a starter ahead of Major League Baseball’s August 1 non-waiver deadline. The lefty is eligible for free agency after the season.

Chapman, who is 28, was acquired during the offseason by the Yankees from the Reds. The Yankees have 2 other good prospects that play shortstop and outfield.

New York Yankees relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman has 20 saves in 21 opportunities with 44 strikeouts in 31.1 innings pitched. Chapman owns the fastest pitch ever recorded in a Major League Baseball game at 106 miles per hour.

Torres, a 19-year-old shortstop, headlines the return package.

Warren, who Chicago acquired from the Yankees past year for Starlin Castro has an ERA of 5.91 this season in 35 innings of action.
