Cubs to acquire Aroldis Chapman from Yankees

It appears the New York Yankees are interested in dealing more than just Aroldis Chapman.

The move has been met with some controversy considering the prospects that the Cubs gave to the Yankees for Chapman and the reliever’s domestic incident this past winter.

But there is no doubting the talent of the 28-year-old Chapman, who went 3-0 with a 2.01 ERA and 20 saves in 31 games with NY.

Chapman has been the subject of intense interest as the Yankees seem to be willing to be sellers as the trade deadline approaches. The homegrown pitcher was dealt to the Cubs in the off-season trade for Starlin Castro alongside the instantly-DFA’d Brendan Ryan, and now he will return to NY.

Nova also wouldn’t come with a particularly steep price tag, as the scout believes the Yankees only would fetch a “mid-level prospect” for the Dominican Republic native.

For the Yankees, it was a rare July trade that saw the best player in the deal leaving NY. “I feel like part of the family here”.

“We’re disappointed we swung and missed in our efforts to sign him as an global free agent back in the 2013 class, but certainly you keep your eyes on players you’ve liked in the past and he was definitely a target for us”, Cashman said.

Cubs prospect Gleyber Torres was rated as Chicago’s best player in the minor leagues.

The teams announced the trade Monday, saying that Chapman is expected to join the National League-leading Cubs for their game Tuesday against the crosstown rival Chicago White Sox. NY acquired Chapman from the Cincinnati Reds this offseason after a deal between the Reds and the Los Angeles Dodgers fell apart over the domestic violence incident. He has a 5.91 ERA in 29 games (one start) for the Cubs this season. Keith Law of ESPN.com recently released his midseason top 50 MLB prospects list and ranked Torres as the 26th-best prospect in baseball. He was dealt to the Cubs on Monday, in exchange for four prospects – one of which could eventually be the next big star for the Yankees.

Now that the Yankees have dealt Chapman will they also deal Miller and have Dellin Betances become the closer?

Making 94 appearances for Advanced Single-A Myrtle Beach this season, the 19-year-old middle infielder managed a.275 batting average with nine home runs, 47 RBI and a.359 on-base percentage en route to an impressive 154 total bases.
