Cueto ready to get out of San Diego after another loss
Brandon Maurer saved his third game with a scoreless ninth to secure a sweep of a Giants team that won the first nine meetings of the season. Padres manager Andy Green went out to get Jackson, who walked off the field to a standing ovation from the 35,784 fans at Petco Park.

Edwin Jackson made quite a first impression on the San Diego Padres. “We’ve got to reboot, reset here”.
They had better do so in a hurry, because this weekend was supposed to be the easy part of a three-city trip.
The no-hitter would have been the first in Padres history. San Diego C Derek Norris was not in the starting lineup.
Giants: After a day off, San Francisco opens a two-game series at Boston on Tuesday night when RHP Jake Peavy (5-7, 5.09) is scheduled to oppose RHP Rick Porcello (11-2, 3.66). It was a rough series. Combined, Bumgarner, Samardzija and Cueto pitched just 16 innings and gave up 13 runs. Each of them allowed a pair of homers.
“That’s uncommon for us, to give up the long ball like we did here”, Bochy said.
Cueto had the same fate as he did in the All-Star Game, when he started for the NL and surrendered two home runs in an inning.
After starting and losing the All-Star Game on Tuesday night, Cueto lost again at Petco Park on Sunday.
Johnny Cueto is ready to get out of San Diego. Cueto has been sick all week, and he woke up Sunday with soreness in his left ribcage.
“I went out there and forgot about how bad I felt”, Cueto said through a translator.
“He wasn’t full strength”, he said. “That’s why we wanted to cover him”.
NOTES: Giants manager Bruce Bochy said RHP Matt Cain (hamstring) will start on Wednesday against the Red Sox.
Jackson was aiming to throw his second career no-hitter. His bid Sunday included nearly as much traffic; he issued five walks and committed one of the two errors that allowed runners to reach base. He also reached on a fielding error by Crawford. Rookie Ryan Schimpf hit an RBI single and Jackson followed two batters later with an RBI hit.
Jackson held San Francisco hitless until Conor Gillaspie’s three-run homer with one out in the seventh inning, and the Padres held off the Giants 5-3 on Sunday for their first sweep of the season.

“We talked about that before the game”, said catcher Christian Betancourt, who caught Jackson previous year with the Atlanta Braves. “We had the right guys up there with a couple guys on base. It’s just a matter of going out and proving it once you get in between the lines”.
