Cuomo among 4 killed in Long Island crash
A driver lost control and struck two other vehicles on a major Long Island roadway Sunday, and police said a former aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and three other people including a 10-year-old boy were killed and seven others were injured. Martella was Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone’s communications director and a former Cuomo staffer. A gray Subaru Outback was traveling eastbound when the vehicle crossed over the median, went airborne and hit a BMW and Honda travelling westbound.

Andrew Cuomo tweeted three times about Martella, saying he was a ‘dedicated, beloved public servant who worked day in and day out to improve the lives of his fellow New Yorkers’.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of those lost in the accident that occurred on Sunday morning on the Long Island Expressway”, Cuomo said in a statement.
Four other people were injured, including Martella’s fiancee, Shelbi Thurau, 29, of Northport, who was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injures, reports Newsday.
The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Pinales and his sister, Patricia Pinales, 27, were killed.
The driver of the Honda, 29-year-old Scott Martella was also killed.
Martella worked as Cuomo’s Suffolk County representative, and later as the state Labor Department commissioner’s Long Island regional representative.
Six others, including a 3-year-old girl, also sustained non-life threatening injuries.
