An explosion rocked a crowded Manhattan neighborhood and injured 29 people, and a suspicious device discovered blocks away was safely removed early Sunday.
The second device, found later inside a plastic bag on West 27th Street, appeared to be a pressure cooker with wiring and a cellphone attached to it, the official said.
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio says there’s no evidence that the two incidents are related, but a connection hasn’t been ruled out.
As part of the investigation, police are looking at surveillance video from around the scene of the blast, officials said.
“There is no evidence at this point of a terror connection to this instant, this is a preliminary information, it is something we will be investigating very carefully, but there is no evidence at this point of a terror connection….”
“We’re not going to let them win”, Cuomo said.
Although no global group had claimed responsibility, New York state Governor Andrew Cuomo said detonating a bomb in New York City “is obviously an act of terrorism”.
Eleven people were taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment but were released by 8:30 a.m. ET on Sunday morning, according to a hospital spokeswoman. It caused no injuries but forced officials to cancel the event.
Donald Trump used the opportunity to continue to tout his intention to get “tough and smart and vigilant” as president. The 26-year-old said she heard and felt a blast.
New York City Police issued a bulletin advising motorists that they should “expect extensive traffic delays and emergency personnel in the area” due to police activity.
“We will be very careful and patient to get to the full truth here”, de Blasio said.
“You could feel it in your body, it was very powerful'” said Claes.
“I want New Yorkers to be confident when they go back to work on Monday that NY is up and running and we’re doing everything that we need to do”. A law enforcement official tells The Associated Press that an explosion in the Chelsea neighborhood appear. None of them would say what was inside the cooker, which has since been removed from the scene.

The explosive device was placed in a trash can in that incident, NBC New York reported. “Everyone just went quiet”. He encouraged New Yorkers to go about their day as usual. The governor also announced the deployment of an additional 1,000 state police and national guardsmen to New York City. He spotted a woman with a metal fragment in her eye saying “I can’t see”.
