Cuomo to Cruz: You should apologize

Mark Silk, a professor of religion in public life at Trinity College, said that while he has no reason to believe Cruz is anti-Semitic, “he’s conjuring up an image of a fast-talking, secular, money-preoccupied, media-saturated NY character”.

“Sen. Ted Cruz should apologize to the people of NY for his remarks and to the people of the United States for his crass attempt to divide us”. He did well throughout, but another moment when he scored heavily came near the end, when he went after Cruz as a flip flopper.

The former New York City mayor, writing in the New York Daily News, called on the Texas senator to apologize for his “crass attempt to divide us”, while praising Donald Trump for delivering a “strong, truthful and eloquent defense of our great city and nation”.

Campaigning in Iowa, Trump told CNN it was “a very serious thing” that Cruz failed to disclose up to $1 million in loans from Goldman Sachs in the public finance reports of his 2012 Senate campaign.

Cuomo called Cruz’s words offensive Friday. “They came in from Queens, and they’re coming through from the tunnel, and they’re going 100 miles per hour … and they go up to try and save people”.

CRUZ: Well, Neil, I’m glad we’re focusing on the important topics of the evening.

De Blasio continued that line of attack Friday morning, arguing that Cruz, a first-term Texas senator and Trump’s closest competitor for the GOP presidential nomination, “does not understand, in the least, NY values”. “In 30 seconds, he offended gays, he offended women, he offended 18 million people, he offended one of the largest congressional delegations”.

“You know, I think most people know exactly what NY values are”, Cruz said.

But, Trump said, “I thought it was disgraceful that he brought that up….”

“Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton and Andrew Cuomo and Bill de Blasio have all demanded an apology, and I’m happy to apologize”, he told reporters after an event here.

“If Mr. Cruz had any conscience and represented the values that he would need to govern he would stand up today and say ‘I made a mistake in criticizing NY and I take it back, ‘” Cuomo said.

Recalling the aftermath of the collapse of the World Trade Center and the “smell of death” that hung in the air, Trump spoke to the spirit of the city as residents worked to rebuild Manhattan.
