Cupich prepares for the Pope’s first US visit

The Holy See Press Office has released the names of all the participants in the 14 Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which begins on October 4.

Once again, several are cardinals already over the age of eighty, including Walter Kasper, Angelo Sodano, Godfried Danneels, and Elio Sgreccia.

Those previously appointed by the USCCB are Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz of Louisville and President of the USCCB; Archbishop Charles J. Chaput of Philadelphia; Archbishop José H. Gomez of Los Angeles and Cardinal Daniel N. Di Nardo of Galveston-Houston, who is vice president of the USCCB.

Chicago’s Catholic leader met with the media today in advance of the Pope Francis’ first visit to the United States in one week.

Archbishop of Chicago Blase Cupich spoke today about relief efforts for European migrants, immigration, the new process for annulments, as well as the Pope’s upcoming visit.
