Kashmir has witnessed violent protests since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani in an encounter by security forces on July 8.

Clashes were reported from a number of places in Srinagar city and parts of Budgam district but nobody was hurt in these incidents, police said.
Constable Khurshid Ahmad Ganai was reportedly shot by unknown gunmen outside his home at Quil in Pulwama on Wednesday when he was leaving for work at the Pulwama police lines, said police officials.
However, restrictions under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which prohibits unlawful assembly of 10 or more people, will remain enforced to maintain law and order.
Reports from South Kashmir’s Kulgam district said that in a bid to thwart a pro-freedom rally forces fired pellets and tear-smoke shells to disperse people in Bugam area resulting in the injuries of more than six people.
The meeting came on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the Kashmir situation in his “Mann Ki Baat” programme on All India Radio and a day after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met him.
Curfew from the south Kashmir town was briefly lifted this morning after remaining in force for 49 days.
Curfew has also been imposed in Anantnag, Pulwama and Pampore towns. On 5 August after the clashes between youth and the police in Charar-i-Sharief, which is represented by the PDP’s Agriculture Minister, Ghulam Nabi Lone, after people clashed with the police following the afternoon prayers, stone pelting stopped as the evening set in.
However, schools, colleges and other educational institutions and shops remained closed due to the strike called by separatists groups who have asked people to lockdown all government offices, except essential services today.

Despite restrictions in Srinagar city, private vehicles and three-wheelers were seen on the roads in city outskirts and vehicular traffic also resumed on many inter-district roads. President of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian and senior Hurriyat leader Agha Syed Hassan Almosvi Alsafvi was also detained by police at Budgam while he was leading a march towards Eidgah Srinagar.
