Authorities said they had chose to lift the curfew over much of the region in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.
Since then, tens of thousands of people have defied security restrictions, staged protests and clashed with government forces on a daily basis.
Aug 29, 2016- Authorities in Indian-administered Kashmir have lifted a curfew in many parts of the Muslim-majority valley after more than 50 days.
Restrictions were lifted throughout most of the valley including the main city of Srinagar, “following the improvement in the situation”, police said in a statement late Sunday. She had said that the Prime Minister was very much concerned about the Kashmir situation and wanted an early end to violence and unrest.
Almost a thousand people have suffered injuries because of pellet guns, with most being eye injuries, further fuelling the anger against the forces and the government. Major traffic jams at the commercial hub of Lal Chowk due to the increased movement of private vehicles.
State opposition parties, who had also met PM Modi in Delhi last week, have pushed for a dialogue with “all stakeholders” including separatists for a long lasting solution to the Kashmir issue.
In their weekly protest programme, the separatists said that except for essential services, lock down all government offices and do not allow any employee towards the government offices for joining.
“Except for these incidents, overall situation remained peaceful and under control throughout the Kashmir valley till filling of this report”. India has rebuked Pakistan on its offer for talks on Kashmir, saying it was open to discussing cross-border infiltration and terrorism – which was much more “relevant”.
