The valley has been on the boil since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani by security forces on July 8.

Baramulla deputy commissioner Nasir Ahmad Naqash said protesters at Nadihal, where Danish died, threw stones on an army convoy.

However, local sources claim that the civil curfew would remain in place at least till the festival of Bakra Eid.

Since then, tens of thousands of people have defied security restrictions, staged protests and clashed with government forces on a daily basis. Public transport was off the roads in Srinagar but some private vehicles were seen on the streets. Two policemen have also died in mob violence whereas about 7,000 civilians and 4,000 – 4,500 security personnel have been injured in almost eight-week-old turbulence. “But, it will remain in force in Pulwama town and in areas under the jurisdiction of Nowhatta and M R Gunj police stations in Srinagar”, a senior police official told IANS.

A teenager was killed and over 100 persons were injured in firing by security forces as fresh violence erupted across the KashmirValley on Wednesday, prompting the authorities to re-impose a curfew that was lifted two days ago for the first time in almost two months after improvement in the security situation.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also met Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi on Saturday and presented a three-point action plan, which includes having a substantive dialogue with separatists and Pakistan, to end the current unrest in the state.

Police said 11 people were injured in clashes with the security forces in different places where youth pelted stones, but no serious injury was reported from anywhere. “Except for these incidents, overall situation remained peaceful and under control”.

After 51 days, curfew was on Monday lifted from Kashmir, except for few police station areas, but normal life continued to be hit by the strike called by separatists.

Greater movement of vehicular traffic and people was observed in major areas of the Valley, the official said.
