Curfew, restrictions continue in Kashmir Valley

Meanwhile, the state government has asked the Kashmiris residing or studying outside the state to contact Deputy Commissioners of their native districts for any help.

The curfew which had been imposed from past two weeks has been lifted in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.

A police official said there were attempts at over a dozen places across the Valley to defy curfew but law enforcing agencies chased the protesters away by resorting to baton charge and firing tear smoke shells.

Barring a few volatile places in south Kashmir, curfew was lifted from nearly all over the valley, a police spokesman said here.

Separatist have given a protest call up to Friday against the civilian killings in ongoing protests. Reports said protests erupted at Sopore but there was no major incident of violence.

Syed Ali Gilani lashed out at Indian police and the puppet authorities for using excessive force against common people and pro-freedom leadership.

“Last evening, when I went for a usual stroll down the main road and was half way towards the old-town, several of my well-wishers and friends advised me to go home early as PDP was planning to attack me, because my expose of Mehbooba Mufti had caused them a deep embarrassment”.

He was also scheduled to address a public rally at Lal Chowk in Islamabad district of occupied Kashmir on Monday.

The Kashmir Valley has been on the edge since the July 8 killing of rebel commander Burhan Wani by security forces in south Kashmir. They have also extended the strike call till July 29 with a call to march to Kulgam district on Wednesday.

The government on Monday tightened security screws across the Kashmir Valley to thwart the Anantnag march, fearing an outbreak of violent protests if people at the instigation of separatists came out in large numbers to reach south Kashmir. But reports said there were curfew strict restrictions at various place in the Anantnag township; the centre of the prevailing unrest in the valley. Barring BSNL post paid landline, mobile and broadband internet services, all private mobile telephone services continue to remain suspended.
