Curry powers Warriors past Pelicans
Stat of the night: While Curry has scored 65 points on 23-of-41 (.561) shooting in the first two games, the Warriors have held MVP candidates James Harden and Anthony Davis to a combined 34 points on 8-of-38 (.211) shooting.

Curry’s shooting an obscene 58.8 percent from the field, 48.6 percent from 3-point range and 95.5 percent from the line.
Two of the losses have come against Golden State, where Gentry was an assistant coach last season. “Let him get over the top of screens, we weren’t supposed to do that”. In the end, it was another dominant win for the Warriors, who beat the Pelicans 134-120, and another otherworldly performance from Curry, who is quite simply, right now, the best player in the league.
“People think we weren’t supposed to be the champs previous year”, Curry said Saturday night after scoring 53 points at New Orleans. The Pelicans ate the Warriors on the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards on that end in the first half. His 53 points Saturday night – one short of his career high – came in 36 minutes.
Curry was matter-of-fact in his description of an evening that capped a 118-point start to the season through the first three games, something Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain also achieved. Jrue Holiday finished with 22 points as New Orleans remains winless at 0-and-3.
Curry was 10 of 13 from the field in the quarter. The Warriors forced 16 turnovers, off which they scored 24 points.
These two teams hate each other and the adrenaline that is added into the game with the rematch of last years Western Conference Finals will add even more into the game. He added a driving layup before draining a three-pointer while being fouled by Toney Douglas.
“In that third quarter, I was getting a few good looks”, said Curry, who made 10-of-13 shots in the period. He welcomes it. He keeps telling Curry the same thing: “Man, you acting like this your league”. Everything clicked in that quarter. Once Curry got hot, the Pelicans allowed the game to get out of hand.
There was no way back for the Pelicans, despite 26 points for Anthony Davis, as the Warriors made it 3-0 for the new campaign.
Curry listened to the crowd frequently rain down “MVP!”
Draymond Green scored 21 points and Klay Thompson added 19 for defending National Basketball Association champion Golden State, which has won its first three games this season.
This was the sum of the Pelicans second half.
In Washington, Carmelo Anthony scored 37 points and New York spoiled the Wizards’ home opener.
Utah Jazz 97, Indiana Pacers 76: Derrick Favors scored 16 of his 18 points after halftime and France’s Rudy Gobert swept 17 boards for the Jazz, who won at Indiana for the first time since February 25, 2011.
Agut reaches Valencia Open final: Roberto Bautista Agut saved six match points before beating American Steve Johnson 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8) to reach the final of the Valencia (Spain) Open.
Bojan Bogdanovic scored 19 points and Jarrett Jack finished with 15 for the Nets (0-3).
