Curry, who played his college ball at Davidson in North Carolina, will try to guide the Warriors to their 20th straight win to begin the season when they visit the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday.

On Wednesday night, Stephen Curry had another incredible game, scoring 40 points for the sixth time in 20 games, including 28 in the third quarter, his fifth 20-point quarter this season.

Curry, the defending victor of the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award, lived up to his reputation for knocking down shots from all over the court.

Curry said he plans to complete his courses and earn his diploma. “We have to step back and see what 20-0 means”.

Curry was nearly ideal in that quarter, making 10 of 11 shots, including all five of his three point attempts. “I can’t ask for more”, Curry said. “I feel like I am a better player than I was past year. It was really, really special”. He also averages 9.2 points and 10.9 rebounds.

Curry hit jumpers from 24, 25, 30, 29 and 30 feet in the third period.

But, considering the level at which the Warriors have been playing thus far this year, we should know better than to count them out. “That’s why he’s MVP of the league”. He adds, with a stretch too much modesty, that his dad “was a pretty good athlete, and me, not so much”. Nicolas Batum led the way with 17 points, while Frank Kaminsky scored 16.

A season-high 31 points from Kobe Bryant helped the Los Angeles Lakers end a seven-game losing streak as they toppled the Washington Wizards 108-104, while the Denver Nuggets slumped to an eighth successive defeat as they were beaten 99-90 by the Chicago Bulls. The star point guard finished with 40 points on 14 for 18 shooting, five assists and three rebounds. He had just 12 points at halftime, and then exploded for 28 third-quarter points, including the Warriors’ last 24 over the final 4:55 of the period.

Klay Thompson had 15 of his 21 points in the first quarter as the Warriors bolted to an early 15-point lead.

Andre Iguodala hit a 3-pointer, and James Michael McAdoo slammed home a lob pass from Marreese Speights to push the lead to 17 in the second. The 76ers played without rookie Jahlil Okafor, their leading scorer, who was suspended after the release of a second video provided details of his fight in Boston he hadn’t revealed to them.
