Curry shoots Warriors to 73rd win, breaking Bulls’ mark

“I’d never in a million years have guessed that that record would ever be broken. I feel like I can really do anything, so that’s what I’m about”.

“Once he got going, he was unstoppable”, Kerr said.

Winning 72 wins is no mean feat-only one team has done it before them and they have been immortalized.

“Somebody has to go 74-and-8”. Hundred of fans filed in expecting to see history.

Harry How/Getty Images Kobe Bryant walks away from the Lakers and the National Basketball Association after scoring 60 points in his final career game.

“It’s a relief”, Kerr said of the grind required to get the record.

“We wanted to have a great start to the season, which we did with that 24-0 start, and from there we raised the bar”. But, can they follow that up with a championship run through the playoffs to be considered one of the best teams of all time?

Steve Kerr, who last season became the first rookie head coach in 33 years to win an National Basketball Association title, has quickly transformed a Golden State Warriors team that was once a laughingstock into one that could dominate for years to come.

Not only did Golden State clinch the all-time wins record by beating Memphis, but Curry further cemented his status as the best outside shooter of all-time by making 10 3-pointers, allowing him to finish with 402 this season.

“Congrats to Steph, and more importantly, congrats to the other 14 guys in the locker room”, Curry’s backcourt mate, Klay Thompson, said.

“The thing that had me cracking up all night long is, I go through 20 years of everybody screaming to pass the ball”, Bryant said with a grin.

Curry had seven three-pointers by halftime, then hit No. 400 just 43 seconds into the third.

Just for good measure, Curry added 21 points in the third quarter and started the final period on the bench with his team holding a commanding 21-point lead.

Having accomplished all his goals for the night, Curry was given the fourth quarter off.

“There are countless things we’ve accomplished this regular season”, Curry said. We gave everything our best shot. “He had a spectacular night”.

Somehow, the Warriors made it look easy all season, never losing back-to-back and finishing with that ridiculous 73-9 record.

Harrison Barnes hit six of 10 from the field en route to 15 points to go with six rebounds, and Draymond Green connected on four of eight on an 11-point night, helping Golden State shoot 52.9 percent for the game.

“That’s hard to do for 82 games”, he said. “Not many guys can say that”.

In Washington, with a seemingly half-hearted showing in its final regular-season game, Atlanta lost to a bunch of backups. Well they have until Wednesday to say whatever they want, but at this point it doesn’t really matter. “We’ll be able to enjoy it”.

NBA Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry on Wednesday scored 46 points as the reigning champions broke the mark that seemed unassailable when it was set two decades earlier by that Michael Jordan-led Bulls team.

The Grizzlies hit 42.9 percent of their shots overall.

Kerr was a member of the Chicago team that in 1995-96 went 72-10, the best record in league history.

Just minutes before tip-off the Warriors found out who they will be playing in the first round of the playoffs: James Harden and the eighth-seed Houston Rockets. Golden State is seventh in the league in attendance this season, filling the Oracle at an average of 19,596 spectators, which likely would be more if the arena were bigger.
