Curry sweeps the MVP, as Thunder put the Spurs on the brink

Stephen Curry’s triumphant return took a little longer than the Golden Star might have wanted.

Stephen Curry accepted his second consecutive NBA Most Valuable Player award Tuesday with his teammates and coaches onstage and his family in the front row.

In 2015, Curry received 100 of the 130 first-place votes.

Former NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady stated that Curry deserves the MVP crown and it was a “well-deserved” award after what they have accomplished with the team as well. The Warriors have put themselves on that list, because of Curry and because of everything around Curry, and because they know this is special.

“Nine years later, you’re the unanimous MVP of the league, which has never been done before”.

The San Antonio Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard finished second with 634 points, and the Cleveland Cavaliers’ LeBron James was third with 631 points.

Curry, in his acceptance speech as the first unanimous MVP in National Basketball Association history, fell back on that otherworldly drive in his attempts to explain how, exactly, in less than six months, he went from a deserving victor to the author of one of the greatest seasons in the history of professional sports. The passing and all of that, I think that’s his greatness: the impact of change that he’s making on the game. I never thought that would happen in my career. If that doesn’t define greatness, I don’t know who does. And it’s what I work on every single day. When you think of MJ, Shaq…I mean, those guys really played against top notch competition.

As for the Trailblazers, Damian Lillard poured in 36 points with 10 assists, CJ McCollum added 24 points while Al-Farouq Aminu added 18 points with 13 rebounds as the Blazers led for the majority of the game and they actually had the shot to win the game in the last possession of the fourth quarter, but Lillard failed to get a clean look and it cost them the game as there was just nothing anybody could do to stop Curry in overtime.

The result makes Curry the first Warriors player to be named MVP a few times.

“He came out of that feeling decent this morning”, Kerr said. He hit a midrange jumper then he air balled an off-the-dribble three-pointer energizing the frenzied Portland crowd even more. “You came back this year dramatically better”.

The now-two-time MVP admitted it took a while to get back into the flow Monday night. But now, down 3-1 and heading into Oakland on the night when Curry gets a trophy, this is a very tall mountain to climb.

Curry, in his first action in 15 days after spraining his MCL in his right knee, scored 40 points, including 17 in overtime, to lift the Warriors to a 132-125 overtime victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

But even after that win, both Curry and the Warriors had doubters.
