Curtis Granderson, Yoenis Cespedes lead Mets to Game 3 win

Thanks to a 13-run offensive explosion in Game 3, the New York Mets are one win away from closing out the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series. The same is expected for tonight’s game and with the crowd as nearly an extra man for the Mets, they could be inspired to progress to the NL Championship Series. Cespedes beat out an infield chopper, then Lucas Duda singled, and d’Arnaud singled to score a run. “As I said after the game, the determination of whether a runner has intentionally interfered with a player attempting to turn a double play is left to the judgment of the umpire on the field, and that judgment call is not subject to review”. That would put Harvey in line to start Game 3 and, if necessary, Game 7. Remember, the Mets clinched the NL East on the road in Cincinnati, spraying champagne in the visitors clubhouse at Great American Ball Park.

Harvey labored through five innings in his first outing since missing a mandatory postseason workout. A year later and it’s the same story there, too, the Dodgers with no one they can truly trust in the seventh and eighth innings. He drove in five runs in six games this year. Matt Harvey didn’t look sharp, but he certainly wasn’t bad. Maybe a handful of Mets fans in attendance Tuesday saw that on-field celebration.

His next time up, Turner was intentionally walked.

The Mets don’t have the most powerful offense in the league, but with Yoenis Céspedes, Kershaw won’t be in for an easy day. Reynolds may become the second player in the modern era to make his major league debut in the playoffs.

Matz obviously has a high ceiling with his talent, but he had all of six major league starts under his belt. But they’d only scored one run, and the bases were loaded with two outs when Granderson stepped to the plate. But he stopped the Dodgers right there, struck out seven, and his teammates saved the show with a franchise record for scoring in a postseason game. He has hit safely in 15 of 16 career playoff games.

When one of Breuer’s Facebook friends commented that Utley’s slide was clean and within the rules of the game, the comedian proceeded to dismantle his thinking with a vicious reply.

Which is why Tuesday night had such a feeling of urgency.

Mets: A starter during the regular season, 42-year-old Bartolo Colon replaced Matz and tossed two shutout innings after throwing 26 pitches in relief Monday night.

The Mets won an electrifying game 3 over the Dodgers 13 to 7. Los Angeles went 43-22 this season in starts by Kershaw and Greinke, and the duo combined to go 35-10 with a 1.90 ERA.

After Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard maintained their regular-season dominance in Games 1 and 2 with 13 and nine strikeouts, respectively, the pressure was on Harvey to make his mark on the series.
