Cutler, Bears go down in ugly home opener
Jay Cutler and Carson Wentz switched roles on Monday night. But it definitely wasn’t a clean game.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz (11) throws a pass during the first quarter against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.
Following a poor moment on their sidelines, the Bears may have more to figure out than how they will get ready for the Cowboys.
All of that comes with a caveat, of course: Both players must stay healthy.
As Wentz looked poised, accurate and polished in the pocket, Cutler played the role of shaky rookie, losing a key fumble and throwing a awful interception before he left the game with a right hand injury. Backup Brian Hoyer finished up. For two games, not having a turnover is something to be said.
The jury is still out on new offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains.
He followed up a strong performance against Cleveland by completing 21 of 34 passes and playing turnover-free ball for the second straight game.
So while he gets to take an occasional shot down the field, Wentz so far mostly survives six- and eight-yard passes.
Afterward, White was defiant when answering reporters’ questions, saying he’d have to look at game film first before explaining what happened.
“The defense was keeping us in the game early on”, tight end Zach Miller said. “I knew that I was putting the team, especially the offense, in jeopardy at that point”. It’s kind of one thing after another that kills drives.
In a ideal Bears world, Kevin White will run a correct pass route and admit when he messes up.
Much stir has been created over the last few weeks as to whether or not protesting during the anthem is a form of disrespect. The defense collected three quarterback sacks and took the football away three times.
Cutler was jarred early by safety Malcolm Jenkins on a blitz. The injury was aggravated as he tried to plant his right hand and break his fall on a strip-sack by Philadelphia’s Destiny Vaeao in the third quarter.
It’s two games into a new National Football League season and it seems more and more apparent that Carson Wentz is for real.
The Eagles soon took the lead, and they never looked back in the second half.
Philadelphia had a second-and-10 from the Chicago 35-yard line.

Considering the Bears play in the Second City, the nation’s third-largest television market where expectations are always high, it’s certainly not surprising that the organization is trying to serve two masters by attempting to remain relevant while restocking the cupboard. Philadelphia took advantage and got their third of the night as Mathews ran into the corner of the end zone to give Philadelphia a 29-7 lead. Cutler actually came back out for the next series, handing the ball off on seven consecutive plays before a third-down incompletion ended the drive on its eighth snap. “We had a great first half”. They had 79 in the second half.
