The software update will bring a number of new features, including Android Pay, Google Now on Tap, battery life improvements due to the Doze feature, and better security and permission controls.

More 12.1 device will receive the CM13 nightly update over the coming weeks, and CyanogenMod expects its list of compatible devices to grow at a fast pace.

There will be some changes to the Moto Enhancement features under the Android M update as well. If users can say this about the beta version, which isn’t flawless yet, the final version of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update could be absolutely terrific. Galaxy Tab 8.4 and Moto X 2014 are among the first phones to gain access to a “nightly” version of CyanogenMod 13. Give it a go if you have the proper device, know-how and understanding. The company is also in development to release a “quality approved” CM13 Snapshot sometime in January next year.

If you’re on a 12.1 nightly, you can “dirty flash” CM13 – by updating like any regular person would – providing you also update any third party add-ons in the same pass. For instance, if you use Xposed or OpenGapps, you’ll need to flash Marshmallow-compatible versions after updating to the CM13 nightly. While it will continue to work on custom software for all kinds of devices, it’s also ramping up official retail partnerships with handset manufacturers.

After you install one of these CM 13 Nighlty builds on your device, then you should keep updating it with new releases by going to Settings About Phone CyanogenMod Updates menu.

One of the important features of Android 6.0 Marshmallow is expandable storage, which makes an SD card an extension of the internal storage of a device.

That said, we can’t recall a nightly that was so bad that you couldn’t use it for an extended period of time, and should you come across issues it’s just as easy to roll back to a stable ROM. Knowing that, if you want to check out CyanogenMod’s early efforts on Marshmallow and are lucky enough to have one of the devices above, be sure to head to the download site here and grab your.zip file.
