Black Friday isn’t the only retail marketing gambit losing its mojo.

Some £943 million is expected to be spent online on Cyber Monday, up from £720 million past year, according to Experian-IMRG.

But the predicted chaos on the high street failed to materialise, with shopper traffic over the Black Friday weekend down by nearly 10%, according to analysts Springboard.

Similar to in-store shopping, sales at the brick and mortar stores fell this past weekend by more than $ 1.5 billion from previous year. And 33.2 percent came from mobile devices, up from 27 percent a year ago.

Thanksgiving might have the last Thursday of November, but Amazon has undoubtedly monopolized Cyber Monday.

With countless retailers slashing prices today, many find competition in the best deals.

Cyber Monday 2015 reached $3 billion in sales but there is a growing concern about the long-term performance of the popular event. Mostly it boils down to convenience and whether retailers will continue to spread online sales deals throughout the Thanksgiving holiday week.

According to the National Retail Foundation, 136 million people were expected to shop over the four day Thanksgiving weekend but today, they say there could be close to 185 million people who will shop on line on this Cyber Monday. The name was also a nod to online shopping being done at work where faster connections made it easier to browse.

To compete with each other and Amazon.com Inc (AMZN.O), most USA retailers like Wal-Mart, Target, Best Buy (BBY.N) began offering some of the season’s best online deals, which traditionally had been reserved for Cyber Monday, several weeks in advance. “I feel that’s part of Christmas”, said Monica Lynch.

In terms of safety online, it’s actually statistically safer to shop at home with a credit card than to use it at the mall, but there are still things to look for to make sure your purchases are secure.
