Cybersecurity experts see merit in claims of Russian hacking
A Russian presidential spokesman on Tuesday accused USA politicians of being paranoid after Democrat Hillary Clinton’s campaign blamed Russia for an email hack and suggested the goal was to help Republican Donald Trump in the US presidential race.

In June, cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike Inc. said sophisticated hackers linked to Russian intelligence services broke into the DNC’s computer networks and gained access to confidential emails, chats, and opposition research on Trump, who, at the time, was the presumptive Republican nominee for the upcoming presidential campaign. “What the motives were in terms of the leaks, all that – I can’t say directly”.
The disclosures prompted the resignation of chairwoman Wasserman Schultz on the eve of the party’s convention in Philadelphia, where Clinton is expected to officially accept the nomination for president.
Mr. Putin wants the United States to treat Russian Federation as an equal superpower with its own acknowledged sphere of influence; Mr. Trump has repeatedly praised Mr. Putin and promised to work with him. If elected president, he said, the United States would not defend North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies against Russian aggression if they had not “fulfilled” their financial obligations to the country.
Trump also has sought for years to extend his real estate empire into Moscow. That certainly doesn’t mean Kim cares whether Trump is elected or not.
Democratic Party officials learned in late April that their systems had been attacked after they discovered malicious software on their computers.
Ely Kahn, a former cybersecurity director for the National Security Council, told the Politico Web site that the DNC hack revealed over the weekend was probably just “the tip of the iceberg” when it comes to such attacks.
Applebaum says that there were Russian markings on the malware used in the DNC hack.
Kerry told reporters Tuesday he brought the matter up with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a meeting in Laos and explained that the FBI was investigating. The exchange took place during a meeting of ASEAN nation foreign ministers. Nancy Pelosi of California, the House Democratic leader, told reporters.
“So is Hillary” and “She stole the election” were the responses from the crowd at the DNC convention in Philidelphia. On Tuesday, ThreatConnect, an intelligence firm based in Arlington, Virginia, said it found evidence that the hacker was communicating with journalists via a dedicated virtual private network based out of Russian Federation.
The plans against Sanders included painting him as an atheist in religious states and implying that his campaign was “inept”, exposing a clear agenda on the part of the DNC to ensure Clinton was the last candidate standing. Trump himself has spoken favorably about Putin as someone he could negotiate with. “And I think that Trump’s gotten pretty favorable coverage back in Russian Federation”. That may reflect the reckless aggressiveness Mr. Putin has embraced in foreign affairs since returning to the presidency in 2012. “The American people are coming for you”.
Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook spoke to CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” yesterday, regarding the “changes to the Republican platform to make it more pro-Russian”, which could provide some of the motive behind the hacks.
Law enforcement and intelligence officials have been focusing their inquiry on the Russian military intelligence agency, the GRU, and whether it was responsible for the leak to WikiLeaks.
The official source of the lead is not known, but a The New York Times’ report suggests they were stolen from the DNC by Russian hackers.

A party that arrived in Philadelphia hoping to present itself as far more unified than the Republicans were in Cleveland last week under a divisive nominee is now trying to put out a raging inferno and blame Russian cyber spies for starting the fire.
