Cyclones Hoping For Repeat of 2011 Performance Against Oklahoma State

Shepard the pitched the ball back to Mayfield and from there, it was nothing but green grass for the Sooners as the quarterback heaved a ball down the right sideline to a wide-open Dimitri Flowers. On the other two possessions, the Sooners fumbled once and ran out the clock.

Then the Sooners’ offense did exactly what they’ve done each of the previous five games: score on the opening drive of the second half.

“Allen is an unbelievable athlete”, Iowa State lineman Jamison Lalk said. The Longhorns had 12 possessions.

For the Cyclones, coach Paul Rhoads is eager to see what his team can do against what he considers one of the Big 12 heavyweights. They have surpassed 50 points in four consecutive games for the first time since 2008.

The Cowboys jumped to fifth in the AP poll this week, after handing TCU their first loss on Saturday. “If you try to hang with them, you have to capitalize on all the chances that you get”. He also rushed 13 times for 64 for a 4.9 average. In fact, his 45 career touchdown passes rank second in school history and his 545 completions rank third. Senior Quenton Bundrage has a team-high four TD catches.

Dominique Alexander led the Sooner defense with seven tackles. Joel Lanning completed 19 of 38 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown to lead the Cyclones.

Oklahoma’s 59 points were its most in the 2014 season. But after that, Iowa State went five consecutive drives without picking up a first down. These two have hit the over in three straight meetings.

ISU quarterback Sam Richardson passed for 239 yards and a touchdown while adding 39 yards and a TD on the ground. D’Vario Montgomery led the Cyclones with 88 receiving yards and a TD.

NO PUNTER: Oklahoma, which amassed 710 yards of total offense, didn’t need to punt in its last game against Kansas. That’s the same Texas team that had entered its matchup with the Sooners on October 10 in disarray but came out of the Cotton Bowl with a 24-17 upset. Defensively, Iowa State is allowing 32.1 points and 460.4 yards per game. “We’re ready to get the week of practice started, and we’re just fired up for the opportunity to go be 10-0”.

The Cyclones hung tough for a while with Baylor two weeks ago and TCU a week before the Bears.

“It’s going to be on people’s minds, because the last time we were 10-0, we went in there and it was kind of the same situation, but we’re prepared for it”, said Walsh, who has scored at least one touchdown in every game this season in a supplementary role behind Mason Rudolph.

Over the season’s first three games, OU was -4 in turnover margin. I don’t expect that steak to be broken Saturday evening but ISU will be confident after shutting out the Steers last week and will play aggressively against OU, which was favored by 25.5 points the last that I looked. He has 8.0 more than second-place Rocky Calmus (1998-01). Giving the upperclassmen a successful sendoff should motivate the entire team, said Rhoads.

“It’s just another one”, Riley said.
