Cystic fibrosis patient dies 5 days after husband passes on

Five days after it was revealed that Dalton Prager, 25, died from the disease, it’s now been confirmed that his wife, Katie Prager, 26, passed at her home in Kentucky. She had said she didn’t know if she could go to the family event after that but just as Dalton had given me the strength to get through the last few days, he had given her the strength knowing it would be her last outing.

Inspired by the Pragers, The Fault in Our Stars became a hit novel in 2012 for John Green, then a hit film by the same name in 2014. Unfortunately, Katie’s lung transplant didn’t take and she was confined to hospice care in Kentucky. They both had lung transplants, but neither of the transplants were successful for long. “We don’t know if he heard her”. Katie noticed that Dalton’s mother had posted a photo of Dalton in the hospital.

“One important thing I have taken away from this is to live, just live. if there is something you want to do, don’t wait”.

The young couple garnered worldwide attention previous year after CNN wrote about Katie’s fight to get a lung transplant. Initially, Dalton’s transplant was a success, but he was later diagnosed with lymphoma. They both lost their respective battles with the disease that clogs the lungs and make it hard to breathe. The pair hadn’t seen each other since July on for their five-year wedding anniversary and were planning to reunite last week, but Dalton was too sick to fly. For their first date, they rode roller coasters, and less than two years later, they were married and bought a house together. She regularly visited the hospital and early September doctors told her there was nothing more they could do for her and recommended she went home with her family.

“She told him that she loved him”, Debra Donovan, Katie’s mother, told CNN.

Katie Prager was not that lucky.

They fell in love and met despite the potential for Katie, of Kentucky, to contract Missouri-based Dalton’s risky and contagious infection called Burkholderia cepacia.
