D/FW Airport Officials Look Into Security Wait Times

An increase in travelers and a decrease in TSA staffing was blamed for the long lines at airport security.

The airport hired 27 extra customer service staff and added more disposal bins for prohibited items to help smooth out the security screening process, Fennell said.

TSA said it lacked resources to comprehensively review all airports with Federal Bureau of Investigation.

About 1 million passengers flew in or out of Denver over the holiday weekend.

It appears that, for the most part, TSA was also able to perform well when it came to fundamentals over Memorial Day Weekend.

There are not enough TSA agents to perform security checks at airports.

Just recently, Secretary Jeh Jonson, of the Department of Homeland Security, requested a reprogramming of $28 million to fund an immediate conversion of 2,784 Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) from part-time to full-time.

The TSA estimates that the change will allow 82,000 additional passengers to be screened by the agency per day, which will provide relief for travelers departing from the city. The airport was aided by 30 TSA officers on loan from smaller airports and 34 new officers.

Two of the loaded guns were pulled from bags at Orlando International Airport, a TSA report showed. “I was there early and it was one hour waiting in line” she said.

Airlines continue to keep in touch with security officials every day as they work to avoid this kind of delay going forward.

It’s been no secret that the Transportation Security Administration has been under fire of late as wait times soared, causing a number of passengers to miss flights.

The data released Tuesday have been closely held by the TSA.

Wait times averaged 13.5 minutes over the weekend, according to the airport.
