D’Tigress: Nigeria women basketball team beat Algeria in AfroBasket
Nigeria’s D’Tigress berthed in the quarter-final of the Afrobasket 2015 tournament on-going in Yaounde, Cameroon, after they defeated their Algerian counterparts 79-49 in their last group game. But a succession of poor execution resulting in three turnovers in that moment of the game allowed Nigeria to regain a 12-point lead.

Two years ago, Mozambique upset Nigeria in the quarter finals, and on Thursday they were very close to repeat their fortunes, but Nigeria stepped on floor a desperation mode, reaching the tournament’s semi final for the second time since 2011.
Nigeria improved their mark to 3-1, prompting Joyce Ekworomadu to describe the win as “big statement, but we need to face one game at time”.
Ndidi Madu, who clear the boards with a game-high 13 rebounds later told FIBA.com: “It was a tough game for us”. Mozambique is a great team.
At the tournament, Nigeria’s top performer has been Adaora Elonu, who scored 15 points, had three rebounds, seven steals and +16 efficiency in the last game against the North Africans while Sarah Chika is on top of the competition’s assist list, hitting 5.6 per game. We didn’t do a good of job rebounding. “The Angolans, who beat Nigeria 57-51 in their opening match on Friday, had earlier on Monday lost 52-53 to Egypt, and are now also on seven points from four games”.
