Daft Punk is in the studio with The Weeknd making new music!

Daft Punk haven’t released an album since 2013’s massive Random Access Memories, but they’ve been keeping fans entertained with fancy merch and funky action figures in the meantime. But today, a video has emerged on where Wendy Goldstein, the EVP A&R for Republic Records, states to Billboard Magazine that both The Weeknd and Daft Punk are in the studio together.

In a Billboard roundtable discussion with other songwriters, A&Rs and executives, Goldstein revealed the information.

Responding to a question about artists they admire and hoped to one day work with, Goldstein answered: “We have a session coming up in two days [.] with The Weeknd and Daft Punk”. However that may be changing soon, as last week Abel Tesfaye posted a photo to Facebook that prominently features two figurines that look unmistakably like Daft Punk.

This is a surprising development for fans who are used to the secretive nature of Daft Punk’s recording. Or the group had a change of heart and is opening up their process a little bit.
