That statement – made by a person familiar with the matter and published by Reuters – ties in with another recent report from Automobilwoche, a sister publication to Automotive News Europe.
Electrification has been seen as a viable path for the future by many automakers, including two German auto giants – the aforementioned Daimler and Volkswagen.
Daimler remains well on track to introduce a new electric vehicle at Paris motor show which is scheduled in the month of October.
Daimler unit Mercedes-Benz, meanwhile, is said to be planning to launch an entirely new line of electric vehicles, including two sedans and two sports utility vehicles.
In the most recent reports published by in Reuters and Automobilwoche, a sister publication of Automotive News Europe, the company sources had revealed that Daimler would be rolling out more than six electric auto models between the period of 2018 and 2024. It also hinted at an all-electric auto with 500km of range, which the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) estimates would be a shorter range than an EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) estimate. There’s also no timeline one when the six to nine cars will be available on the market, although the first model is expected by 2018.
Separate from the vehicle scheduled for unveiling at the Paris Motor Show, Reuters also noted that Mercedes is working on an SUV model that has a “plug-in hybrid engine powered by (hydrogen) fuel cells”, and a range of about 30 miles (50 km) on battery power alone.

Mercedes revealed more of its electric vehicle plans last month at the Monterey auto Week in Pebble Beach, Calif., and as seen in the photo. Most of the European automobile manufacturers are investing heavily in EV technology.
