We’re only given a few hints in the movie as to what may have happened to drive them apart, but it’s nothing concrete.
Now that it’s out and about, and most of over-eager website editors have seen it three times (you know who you are), the muzzle has been removed from JJ Abrams’ phizog and he’s now free to talk up anything and everything “The Force Awakens”. “And not a villain who was the finished, ready-made villain, but someone who was in process”.

But while Obi-Wan willingly died and disappeared, Han’s death is so much more brutal, both physically and emotionally. I liked how this movie shifted focus to show us the perspective of a Stormtrooper. I will try to be unbiased but that will be hard especially after how flawless it felt to me, and gave me a new hope (pun intended), that the direction of the new franchise is in very good hands.
Killing off Han Solo certainly qualifies as bold.
