Dak Prescott Looked Credible In Defeat On Sunday To The Giants

In Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys, it looked like it could have been déjà vu to last season.

The loss didn’t fall on him, it wasn’t his fault the defense was gashed on big runs at the most inopportune times. The Cowboys will have to limit kicking field goals when they are in the red zone.

“We’ll get him the ball as it comes up in our offense”, he said.

As one might expect, the internet reminded the 27-year-old of what just about any nine-year-old with at least a week’s worth of playing Madden already knows: With the clock winding down on a crucial final drive, and no timeouts to your team’s credit, get the hell out of bounds to stop the clock.

Dan Bailey had four field goals, matched his career long at 56 yards and had another one from 54. The heralded rookie ran the ball 20 times for only 51 yards.

But more importantly, rookie quarterback Dak Prescott played pretty well in his debut Sunday. Prescott also had 2 carries for 12 yards which I think will pick up as well if the offensive line cannot give him the time needed to be able to pass the ball. Yes there will probably be one or more further attempts for Tony Romo to return to the field, but from what I saw yesterday the Cowboys should just move on into the future and let Prescott stay and play as the starter and future of the storied franchise.

He just made an incredibly very bad decision. It could have been easy to quit on games previous year, but the Cowboys didn’t.

And they were. McAdoo obviously wants more turnovers on defense and also less penalties from his team, but those are always the complaints from any head coach.

That was a sentiment in the locker room Sunday evening after the win. “There are a lot of things we have to clean up, but it was nice to get a road win”.

Dak Prescott showed that the future is bright for the Cowboys despite losing another game at home on Sunday.

“I think we just took one step in a season of trying to maximize our potential”, right tackle Marshall Newhouse said. “I’ll put the ball in a better place”. That is a good sign for the team moving forward.

“I gave it to our equipment guys”, he said of the memento. That’s trite to say that.

We can all point fingers at the players and how they played all day and night. Any time a running back is selected within the top five of the National Football League draft, he’s expected to be elite out of the gate. While several veterans were impressed with the physical style of Ezekiel Elliott in the pre-season, he had some issues getting yards once the games started counting. The 2.6 yards-per-carry average is less than half what he averaged at Ohio State (6.7 yards per carry). “I think I got a little bit impatient”.
