Dak Prescott on Dez’s down week: ‘We’ll make that connection’

The New York Giants aren’t getting too excited after opening the season with a win for the first time since 2010.

The answer to the first question is “maybe”. Still need to take the ball way more-one takeaway a game will put at you at the bottom of the takeaway chart-but they held NY to 20 points, and that will give you a chance to win most games.

The Cowboys were down one point at their own 41-yard line with no timeouts and 12 seconds remaining on the clock. Dak Prescott showed that the future is bright for the Cowboys despite losing another game at home on Sunday. Yesterday’s lowlight reel participant: WR Terrance Williams, who cut back upfield on the game’s final play rather than get out of bounds.

Could Williams have gotten out of bounds? He finished the game catching three balls for 34 yards and that includes the final play where NY played a prevent defense. He is always bound to make that flawless pass, that ideal play. The team practices it constantly, going through any and all possible situations so when it happens they’re ready. Still, it’s nearly impossible to figure out a justification for the Cowboys to line up and play the way they did during this sequence when the Giants killed three minutes off the clock. A few more seconds and we all would be singing a different tune.

Ben McAdoo appeared to crack a smile in the locker room after the Giants’ win over the Cowboys on Sunday.

Dan Bailey had four field goals, matched his career long at 56 yards and had another one from 54. As he explained after the Cowboys’ one-point loss, Williams fully meant to run out of bounds. Early on, Kirk Cousins was decent and the team grabbed a 6-0 lead thanks to field goals. As great as he is, Bailey is probably not making that kick. So it wasn’t a brainfart, just a generally poor decision. We’re definitely behind him and will support him.

The Giants double-teamed Dez Bryant constantly, which gave Williams plenty of 1-on-1 opportunities.

Prescott went 25 out of 45 passing for 227 yards, but he averaged just five yards per pass. But it just didn’t go as planned.

“It was like a bang-bang moment and now that I have the chance to sit back and think about it, I should have just gone out of bounds”, Williams said. “Looking back, I’ll never do that again”.

POWER PAIR: Watch out for New York’s receiving corp. I was clearly aware of the time.

“We’ll make that connection”, Prescott said. I also have coached CYO basketball for roughly 20 years. You feel offensively you can score most times you get it and you feel you have to score most times you get it.
