Rookie Dak Prescott of Mississippi State is expected to start the season opener against the New York Giants on September 11.

Through three preseason games, Griffin has displayed that he can run the offense efficiently, and he has taken some hits and has been able get back up.

But Garrett had said on Saturday that he is confident about Romo returning to action this year.

“He just going to start getting into rehab and part of his rehab is he’s going to be wearing a back brace for now”, Garrett said Sunday morning, per David Moore of SportsDay. Romo, 36, played in only just games in 2015, as he twice broke his collarbone and the Cowboys went down the tubes, finishing 4-12.

With the injury to Tony Romo that could sideline him for as much as half the season, will the Cowboys come calling again for one of the Browns quarterbacks?

Without Romo, the Giants will take aim at Prescott with their revamped defense, as Olivier Vernon, Jason Pierre-Paul and the rest of the defense will break in a rookie starting his first National Football League game.

Tony Romo’s injury was instantly apparent Thursday night.

The Cowboys will likely search for a veteran backup quarterback though and allow Prescott to hold down the starting job until Romo returns. Prescott has been impressive all preseason. This will mark the fourth straight season that Romo has missed at least one game.

Prescott, a fourth-round draft pick this spring, has exceeded the most optimistic of expectations in preseason, completing 39 of 50 passes for 454 yards and five touchdowns. After that, there was speculation that he would not play in the team’s final preseason game. He’s also notched 53 rushing yards and two touchdowns on seven rushing attempts.

Jones and his son, executive vice president of personnel Stephen Jones, have said they are comfortable giving Prescott a shot as the starter. “The only thing that was different is that we didn’t go under center”.
