Dak Prescott shines in National Football League preseason debut

Jarrett Bell of USA Today Sports noted that Dak Prescott looked like the first overall pick compared to the Rams’ Jared Goff, who played badly in his first preseason game.

While Prescott led the Cowboys to two scores, Dallas was on the board before the Mississippi State product took the field as Lucky Whitehead returned the opening kickoff for a 101-yard touchdown. Prescott’s dazzling performance Saturday, in which he completed 10 of 12 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns, indicates Jones may be onto something.

Los Angeles scored that lone first half touchdown on a 14-yard Benny Cunnigham run.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Bryant plans to hang Gurley’s jersey somewhere special.

Prescott fired back, connecting with Terrance Williams on a 32-yard touchdown 1:32 into the second quarter. The Cowboys closed the first-half scoring when Dan Bailey hit a 44-yard field goal for a 24-7 halftime lead. Goff completed 4 of 9 passes for 38 yards and an interception.

The Cowboys drove from their own 16-yard line to the 50, when they turned the ball over on downs when Jameill Showers threw incomplete passes on third down and fourth down. Meanwhile, third-string quarterback Sean Mannion threw three touchdown passes in the second half to help Los Angeles erase a 17-point deficit. Sure it was nice to see him play well and maybe he is the quarterback of the future in Dallas, but he hasn’t proven that yet. We will be switching to a new platform early in September.

Bryant, who only played in nine games last season due to a foot injury, caught two passes for 28 yards.

The last time National Football League teams played at the Coliseum was on December 24, 1994, when the Los Angeles Raiders lost to the Kansas City Chiefs, 19-9, before a crowd announced at 67,642.

The Rams are entering this season with a new home and new quarterback. It was just good to see the coaching staff and everybody get behind the promise of what he might be able to be as a player.

After that, the Cowboys put their focus back on Prescott and Showers.

“It was a great evening”, Rams coach Jeff Fisher said.

Though August heroics are often forgotten as soon as the regular season begins, it’s the only football we have right now.

Dallas rested No. 1 quarterback Tony Romo, coming back from a broken shoulder, and rookie Dak Prescott was impressive during his time in the game. Ultimately the Cowboys took Dak at #135, making Prescott the eighth quarterback selected and seemingly the flawless one for us.

One reason to be concerned: When Charles Brown somewhat surprisingly retired before camp started, the Cowboys had no choice but to name Chaz Green as their swing tackle. That doesn’t make them a superstar, or Hall of Fame bound, or even a good player. This gave Dak Prescott a chance to show his stuff, while both Marcus Mariota and Philip Rivers looked good among the other starting QBs.
