Dak Prescott Shows Poise, Potential for Cowboys Against Rams

But Goff played only two second-quarter series, while Sean Mannion passed for three second-half touchdowns to lead the Rams to a 28-24 victory. While nobody is ever happy to suffer a loss, this doesn’t sting quite like losing a regular season game. Even though it is just a preseason game, I am sure some bad blood still exists between these teams.

For the first four quarters until the last three minutes of the game, the Cowboys played good enough to win.

This should be a no-brainer.

The only reason this was in question was because of how his 2015 ended.

Somehow an 83% completion rate, 11.6 yards per attempt, 2 touchdowns in 12 passes, and no interceptions didn’t add up to a ideal passer rating, but given that both incomplete passes were frankly and badly dropped (see “some players disappointed”) that is a mere technicality.

Dez is back: In camp, Dez Bryant showed flashes of greatness. He capped the next drive with a 32-yard touchdown strike down the sideline to wide receiver Terrance Williams.

“I think the best thing about Dak is that he is extremely calm,” Bryant said.

Prescott played the entire first half before giving way to Jameill Showers for the second half.

It felt very Jones-like (with a nice dose of sarcasm) for taking most of the credit on the Rams moving back to Los Angeles.

A crowd of 89,140, many of them Cowboys fans, made it the largest attendance in the history of the National Football League for a preseason game.

Allowing Lucky Whitehead’s 101-yard touchdown return on the opening kickoff was a memorable way to open the Rams’ second tenure in Los Angeles.

Under heavy pressure on a screen pass for Rod Smith on his first drive, Prescott patiently waited until a defender had both arms around him before tossing a flawless touch pass to Smith to set up a touchdown to Dez Bryant in the red zone.

Against the Cowboys on Saturday, the Rams’ starters struggled to get going beyond the kickoff return touchdown to start the game.

He did adjust to the pace of the game better after the first series and started looking more comfortable in the pocket. Rams running back Todd Gurley and defensive end Robert Quinn didn’t play.

Goff is the planned future of the Rams’ franchise but Mannion was definitely putting on an audition for the other 31 teams in the National Football League who may want his services.

Garrett said Prescott wasn’t ideal, pointed out a messed-up play call and saying the rookie might have made some better decisions. This should be an interesting week leading up to the next preseason game.

Boykin, competing with veteran Jake Heaps, replaced Wilson after one possession and had some good and some not-so-good moments before getting going on the final drive.
