His India-based secretary, Tenzin Taklha, said in an email on Thursday that the Dalai Lama was going to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, for an annual medical checkup but was not ill.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama is in the United States for a medical check-up.
As his age advances, the Dalai Lama has given up his political role and instead delegated to an elected government in Dharamshala, India, voted by exiled Tibetans. The Chinese government, especially current President Xi Jinping, who is also in America at this time, sees the 14th Dalai Lama as a unsafe revolutionary. Ticketholders will receive automatic refunds to their credit cards beginning October 5. His Holiness’ remarks stirred public dissent during his interview with BBC TV journalist Clive Myrie during his 9-day state visit in London.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Dalai Lama as he recovers his strength”, Rosen said. Meanwhile, ticket costs will be refunded for all Dalai Lama starting the week of October. 5, the university says.
Besides the trip to the school in Boulder, Colorado, a schedule on the Dalai Lama’s website listed appearances in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, next month.
CU officials said the Office of Tibet has offered to consider rescheduling the visit.
“Obviously his well-being is the most important thing”, said Jana Cunningham, a spokesperson for the U.
“When we first heard he was coming, I we all started cheering”.

Myrie then asks the Dalai Lama if he was perhaps joking, to which he responded with a simple “no. True!”
