Dale Earnhardt Jr.: “I want to race. I’m not ready to quit”.

Sports’ coverage highlights Watkins Glen’s winningest driver Tony Stewart, as he looks to continue his hot streak at this weekend’s highly anticipated race. So he is just telling me do this treatment, take these medications, do this every day and, ‘I promise you we are going to get you right.’ And that is not the conversation (retirement) you are going to have in the middle of treatment with someone who is suffering or someone who is going through that process. “We just have to go out there and do our jobs”.

“My doctors have a good understanding of my history and what I’ve been through, and with their own personal knowledge that they have throughout their careers to give me a clear understanding of when I’ll be ready to go back and get in a race auto”, Earnhardt Jr. said.

“I love seeing the emotion of the athletes and I really don’t care what sport it is”. We’ve got a good notebook. “I don’t know how long it’s going to take”.

Qualifying came around, and what a session it was! With five races to go before the Chase cut-off, you can imagine these five drivers are going to be looking to get locked in with a win.

After the first lap when the tires were getting up to temperature, I made a decision to get a gap for clear laps. “I figured coming to the track wasn’t a bad idea”. “I can’t be more thankful for the whole Ted Marsh Racing deal”. “I’ve been able to talk to Bob a little bit”, Carl Edwards said about his former crew chief. Dale emphatically stated that his intentions are to “get cleared and get back to racing”. Brad Keselowski is pretty good at answering adversity with victories and I think there may be some extra motivation to conquer Watkins Glen this weekend from the #2 team. The No. 88 driver will honor his current contract at Hendrick Motorsports, which runs through the end of next season. “You don’t want to go anywhere where you’re going to feel worse”. The 90-lap race will be televised by USA Network.

“I always loved racing”.

Races start on Friday and there are several to choose from. “I’m not thinking about the ‘What ifs?’ We went into this with the intention of getting back into the vehicle and so did my doctors”. I’m not ready to quit. I was under attack the first lap, trying to figure out the shifting issue. The auto was unbelievable, and I was able to put down fast laps and caught Clark. Nothing has been determined beyond that race, with Earnhardt’s condition dictating his ability to return. He still can not be considered a stud on the road course, but he has four Top 10s in seven career runs at The Glen and he continues to improve by leaps and bounds.

It was a scramble as race two rolled around Friday afternoon. As it seemed to be drying, the rain would resume. “Until then, we are just taking it one evaluation at a time”. While he has yet to do a celebratory burnout at the NY track, he has three Top 5s with 66 laps led while finishing outside of the Top 20 just once.

This chase was helped when a full-course yellow came out, and the field was bunched up. They will typically sit him down with 4 or 5 specialists during visits. The last seven, eight weeks we’ve been unloading with a lot better speed, running better in the race.

I had set fast lap in each race, which meant I would start on pole Saturday morning for the third and final race of the weekend.

As we went to green, we had fixed the issues with the gears and I had a great jump.

It leads us back to mixed blessings. So we put together this deal to run Watkins Glen.

I got another great start and started to stretch the lead again. Scheuer previously was part of the Watkins Glen Lions Club and has been volunteering at the track nearly every year since 1996. Fast facts: Trevor Bayne will be in the No. 60 vehicle this weekend. The race, which was not held previous year, promises to be fantastic event with all four classes participating.

Something else also was special at Watkins Glen.

All the elements were there for a Chris Buescher Sprint Cup win
