Dalit rape victim dies, angry DCW lashes out at Delhi police
Immediately after the death, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal met the grieving family members and demanded strictest action against the rapists.

The victim, the daughter of a security guard and a housemaid, was first kidnapped from outside her home in North Delhi’s Burari in December previous year.
“How many Nirbhayas does Delhi want?” She was kidnapped on May 19, a week before the hearing on the assault case. The victim had told police that she was kidnapped by Shankar’s aunt, and during a week-long confinement had been raped several times by the 30-year-old.
Taking to Twitter, Maliwal said the girl’s parents were “very poor and inconsolable”. We simply wait for the next Nirbhaya. The DCW issued notice to Burari police station SHO Satbir Singh, seeking the reason for “not arresting the accused till date”.
He said Kejriwal asked the woman to make a compromise when she approached him alleging she was being harassed by party workers.
The DCW chairperson added, “Safety of women is only being politicised in Delhi”.
Swathi Malawi said that ” there are so many issues going on in society either in north or south rape cases are increasing day by day and numerous innocent were suffering and the person who has to get punishment was roaming without any punishment. “It is, therefore, strongly recommended that police protection should be provided on a priority basis to the victim and her family”, she said. Maliwal has questioned as to why a case under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was not filed.
In her statement before a magistrate, the girl said that she had accompanied the accused of her own will and refused to undergo a medical examination, claimed the DCP. Her neighbour had reportedly made her drink a “corrosive substance” that caused severe damage to her internal organs. Later, she was dropped in Nari Niketan.
The commission shifted the girl from Lok Nayak (LNJP) Hospital to a private facility on Saturday.

The DCW it seems, only intervened in the case after July 15, based on media reports.
