Dallas Cowboys Acquires Veteran Quarterback Sanchez; Expected To Back Up Dak Prescott

Tony Romo is expected to miss 8-10 weeks – if not more – after breaking a bone in his back during a preseason game, so Prescott will be given an opportunity to start in his place.

Sanchez reached a deal with the Cowboys the same day he was released by Denver as all National Football League teams had to get their rosters to the 53-man limit for the regular season.

The move on McFadden wasn’t a surprise because rookie Ezekiel Elliott, the fourth overall pick in the draft, is expected to start the September 11 opener against the New York Giants.

The Dallas Cowboys wasted no time reaching out to Sanchez.

Prescott has been phenomenal for the Cowboys this preseason. It was a quick stop in the Mile High City for the former fifth overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. Sanchez’s performance during training camp and the preseason changed that. An undrafted free agent, he’s thrown for 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in his three-year career.

John Elway, Broncos’ general manager said last April that he wanted Kaepernick for the fourth round pick in a future draft, and he also wanted him to take a pay cut to move to Denver, which was declined by the quarterback.

Sanchez, who played four seasons with the Jets, led the team to two AFC title games in his first two years.
