Dallas Cowboys Finally Get Quarterback In Dak Prescott

Cowboys starting quarterback Tony Romo is 36, and when he was hurt last season the Cowboys discovered they had no viable backup option.

Coach Jason Garrett signaled the decision – no smokescreen on this one – as far back as the NFL Scouting Combine in February. There is a chance that he could develop into something special, but the odds are the Cowboys are going to have to get their hands on another young quarterback in a lower round sometime in the next few years. Moore is the only one of those three under contract with them now. And one that NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt saw as a fit for Dallas two months ago. He had a third-round grade by some draft experts.

The former MSU quarterback fell to the fourth round on Day 3 of the draft on Saturday. Dallas is likely still in the market for a veteran backup quarterback for Romo, but at least there’s some effort being put into development for the future.

Sure. Once upon a time, Romo was that guy, as an undrafted free agent sitting behind Drew Bledsoe.

Dallas had four sixth-round selections. But despite Dallas’ attempts Thursday night to move from 34th overall to 26th, it was Denver that managed to orchestrate the trade with the Seattle Seahawks.

Given the dearth of QB talent behind Romo, it wasn’t surprising to hear that owner Jerry Jones nearly mortgaged Dallas’ draft capital to move back into the first round for Memphis’ Paxton Lynch.

“It’ll be awesome. I’m going to go in there I’m going to work and compete”, Prescott said. “I was still mad about it. Actually thought we had it done”.

The Cowboys found their man with their second pick in the fourth-round, snagging Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott. And Prescott has both, plentifully.

Experts suggested that this year’s quarterback class was weaker than those in year’s past overall, with Goff and Wentz being the only NFL-ready players. “To come to the Cowboys and learn under him will be exciting”.

It was expected the Cowboys would take a quarterback at some point in the 2016 NFL Draft.

However, it’s far from a guarantee that Prescott is Romo’s true blue heir apparent.
