Dallas Cowboys: Is this the end of the Tony Romo era?
Romo has been sidelined indefinitely with a broken bone in his back, a compression fracture to the L1 vertebra, per a source. Last season, Romo missed 12 games due to the collar bone injuries, making him a fantasy bust.

One day after it was reported by numerous National Football League insiders that Tony Romo would likely miss at least the first half of the 2016 National Football League season, head coach Jason Garrett isn’t ruling the quarterback out for Week 1.
Dallas coach Jason Garrett said: “We’re going to monitor his condition day by day and we’ll see how he feels going forward”.
The Cowboys are likely looking for a quarterback with experience that can help them win games until Romo returns and might be willing to give up more than they were a month ago.
With Romo now out of the lineup, the Cowboys will turn to rookie Dak Prescott out of Mississippi State as their new starting quarterback. His work in the preseason has been nothing short of phenomenal: 454 yards on 39-of-50 passing with five touchdowns and no interceptions. But Garrett said the 36-year-old woke up Friday with stiffness, and an MRI revealed Romo’s fourth back injury in less than four years. However, the veteran QB’s injury is starting to pile up and he might never be the same player again for the Cowboys after the latest injury. But there’s a huge difference between starring for Mississippi State and against backup defenses, and leading one of the most tense teams in the National Football League in a division that’s better than it was previous year.
Prescott has been the talk of this preseason.
“We feel good about Dak”, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told reporters.
There now are not very many veteran quarterbacks available, but with the first round of cuts come Tuesday when teams need to go from 90 players to 75, some could become available.
The next question is whether Prescott plays in the preseason finale against Houston on Thursday night. Tony Romo was injured after a Cliff Avril sack on his first pass attempt of the preseason. “So you’ll see him around wearing that”.

There isn’t a timetable for Romo’s recovery as it stands right now, but it seems like a reasonable guess that he won’t available for at least the first few games of the season. Although he felt fine to return to the game, head coach Jason Garrett chose to pull him from the game. “He’s a victor. And he’s only going to get better”. Dak does have weapons on the offense in veteran Dez Bryant and Elliot, so a successful season out of Dallas is not all far fetched, besides, it is the NFC East in contention here.
