Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo out with broken bone in back

Tony Romo is out with yet another back injury and it’s unknown when he will return, although Dallas coach Jason Garrett says he expects his star quarterback to play this season.

Tony Romo suffered a broken bone in his back during the Cowboys’ preseason game Thursday. Romo, 36, played in only just games in 2015, as he twice broke his collarbone and the Cowboys went down the tubes, finishing 4-12.

Head coach Jason Garrett said during a conference call that the team will monitor the injury on a day-to-day basis.

The Cowboys will now turn to rookie Dak Prescott, who was selected in the fourth round of April’s draft. The 6-foot-2, 238-pound quarterback has completed 39 of 50 passes for 454 yards and has thrown five touchdowns with no interceptions in three preseason games.

Prescott, who also has two rushing touchdowns, led a scoring drive in his first full possession against the Seahawks after Romo’s injury. He’s also run for two scores.

“He’s come to our camp [the Manning Passing Academy] before and I watched him play at Mississippi State”, Manning said. With the way Prescott has been playing, the Cowboys should be able to stay afloat. A source says Romo’s most likely return is the October 30 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, putting him out for the first six games of the season.

He said, “Look, this is not something that is a long term issue for me”. Getting anything for Mallett instead of letting him go for free would be a steal.

There were other moments in the game against Seattle in which Prescott looked skittish, as a rookie should in a hostile environment.

“I definitely owe him”, Claiborne said. “But I didn’t know it was that serious”. Of course, it’s on a much larger scale and the athleticism of his opponents is unlike any he’s seen, but Prescott doesn’t seem fazed. They have taken advantage of his legs, and he has benefited from their great offensive line, but he is still executing with solid consistency. “That was a good play'”. I think a lot of that is people outside of this building have suggested what the timetable is.
