Dallas Cowboys sign quarterback Mark Sanchez after release by Denver

Now, the question is will he move up to No. 2. Even after the Broncos drafted Paxton Lynch in the first round, it appeared Sanchez would be the bridge at quarterback until Lynch was ready.

“You’re going to have to look at what (the Broncos) do”, says Rivera. “That’s what our goal was”.

The fourth-round pick from Mississippi State finished the preseason 39-of-50 passing (78 per cent) for 454 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Sanchez spent the first four years of his career with the New York Jets, making two appearances in the AFC Championship game.

“I have no idea, ” Sanchez said as he left the locker room. “I have gone up and down while I was learning everything”. We just thought that where we are [that] it was probably best for us to go in different ways at this point in time.

After holding off on adding a veteran following Moore’s injury, the Cowboys knew they would have to add one once Romo got hurt.

“He’s going to play with a lot of young players”. Having announced former seventh-round pick Trevor Siemian as their starting quarterback earlier in the week, the team faced the possibility of having to surrender a seventh-round draft pick if they kept Sanchez on their final 53-man roster. Clearly there are concerns as to whether Sanchez can lead an offense after getting beat out by Siemian in a quarterback competition in Denver, but Minnesota likely doesn’t want to rest their season on the shoulders of 36-year-old quarterback Shaun Hill.

Another practice squad graduate is second-year wide receiver Jordan Taylor, who parlayed his experience as Manning’s personal practice partner during the QB’s comeback from a foot injury last year into a roster spot.

Defensive end Mike McAdoo was placed on the waived-injured list despite a strong showing in the preseason finale. “I will tell you this”. “I have put some weight on to carry the load and tire some defences out”.

“It’s the saddest time in the NFL”, Denver running back C.J. Anderson said. But there are National Football League rumors that the veteran QB could be out until Week 10 of the regular season. Ronnie Hillman had 9 yards in three attempts. Sanchez’s performance during training camp and the preseason changed that. With his release, however, Denver now no longer owes Philadelphia that pick.
