Dallas killer’s mother says military ‘changed’ him
The concern Brown is facing, even days after Johnson’s assault ended with the killer being blown up by a police robot, is mirrored by other officers and other police departments around the country.

Johnson was discharged under “other than honorable” conditions after he was accused of sexually harassing a colleague, Bradford Glendening, the military lawyer who represented him, told The Associated Press.
“I would use any means necessary to save our officers’ lives”.
Surgeons at Parkland Memorial Hospital spoke Monday afternoon about treating some of the victims.
“I’m more afraid of the police after the shooting because people are going to feel like everybody’s out for them”, said Anthony Williams, a 23-year-old demolition worker who described being routinely sworn at, frisked and asked for identification simply for sitting outside.
“We don’t know the scope of his plans yet”, Brown said.
Mr Brown said killing Mr Johnson was “not an ethical dilemma”, and he would do it again to protect his officers.
Enedavor Robots says it has sold robots to several police departments in the Dallas area, but wasn’t sure if their device was used Thursday night.
“Me and my family have received death threats nearly immediately after the shooting”, Brown said. “I’m so thankful. I had never seen anything like that the way they just came around us and guarded us like that”. Black men dying and being forgotten.
The dispute further strained a department that Brown said is one of the lowest-paid in the region, with new recruits making $43,000 a year, and has had such trouble recruiting officers that academy classes are frequently canceled for lack of participation.
Federal agents are trying to trace the origin of the weapons used by Johnson, including a military-style semi-automatic rifle. About 30 agents are involved in identifying bullet casings.
Johnson’s time in the Army was marked by a sexual harassment accusation in May 2014 while in Afghanistan.
Looking beyond Dallas, Brown said today, “We’re asking cops to do too much in this country”. Johnson was ordered to avoid all contact with her.
The shootings took place just a few blocks from where president John F Kennedy was slain in 1963.
Mr Johnson opened fire at a protest being held over the deaths of African Americans at the hands of police.

Michael Bouchard, the sheriff of Oakland County, Michigan, said he considered doing so during a 2012 standoff in which a man killed a police officer before barricading himself inside a building. “What we saw in Baton Rouge was a police department that chose to provoke protesters to create, like, a context of conflict they could exploit”. Two officers from El Centro were injured.
