Dallas police chief corrects location where shooting suspect was killed

The sniper who killed five police officers in Dallas planned larger attacks, probably on law enforcement, the city’s police chief said Sunday as he provided new details about how the suspect taunted authorities for two hours during negotiations.

Police now believe Johnson acted alone, as he had told negotiators, and people taken into custody earlier on suspicion of working with him have since been released.

Brown said it wasn’t clear what Johnson had been trying to write but that investigators are trying to figure it out.

There’s been speculation “RB” might have stood for “Righteous Blood” – a reference to a biblical phrase: “And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on Earth”.

Johnson opened fire on police officers during an otherwise peaceful protest over the police killings of Philando Castile in Minnesota, and Alton Sterling in Louisiana.

“Speaking to CBS” Face the Nation, Rawlings defended the police’s use of a bomb to end the standoff, noting Johnson had been given the opportunity to surrender.

“I don’t know what to say to anybody to make anything better”.

Shetamia Taylor, who was shot while shielding her son, said police surrounded her and saved her life by creating a human wall of bodies to block the bullets.

“We are not going to let a coward who would ambush our police officers change our democracy”, Dallas Police Chief David Brown told reporters.

The headquarters building was not put on lockdown and no shots were fired, but at one point police asked the media not to broadcast live near the HQ for the safety of officers. Dallas police later killed Micah by detonating a bomb via a robot.

“I’d do it again”, Brown said.

Police reportedly found an arsenal of weapons amassed by the shooter when searching his home.

“He just basically lied to us; playing games, laughing at us, singing, asking how many did he get and that he wanted to kill some more and that there were bombs there”, Brown said, explaining that negotiations had broken down.

Video from Dallas showed protesters marching along a downtown street about half a mile from City Hall when shots erupted and the crowd scattered, seeking cover. “Without our actions, he would have hurt more officers”. Abbott tended to his wounds at the scene and then returned to assist others, the statement said.

A number of gun attacks involving police officials and civilians have occurred in other parts of the U.S. in the aftermath of the deaths in Minnesota and Louisiana. Its number of wounded did not include any El Centro College officers.
