“The suspect stated he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers”, Police Chief David Brown told reporters, recounting what the alleged shooter said before he was killed.
Johnson was cornered in a parking garage in downtown Dallas and later killed by a police explosive device after attempts to persuade him to surrender were unsuccessful.
Public records indicated that he lived in Mesquite, a suburb of Dallas, and the Army also listed Mesquite as his place of residence.
The Army says Johnson served in the Army Reserve and did one tour of duty in Afghanistan.
“You see people screaming and yelling, but you see people in uniform running to tell people to get back”, Ohneiser said.
Still, Governor Greg Abbott and other officials said they were looking for evidence of any possible co-conspirators.
A protest with approximately 100 people blocked Gay Street at Union Avenue on a rainy Friday night while protesters chanted, “Black lives matter”. Rifles, police discovered Friday morning, were not the only combat gear he kept in the home.
“The Dallas Police Department and all the other departments there were allowing people to voice their opinions and have a peaceful protest and unfortunately someone made a decision to take it to the extreme”, Ohneiser said.
“We understand the violence that occurred in Dallas to reflect the violence that is all too common in America”, Carruthers said in an interview.
As previously reported, Dallas police chief David Brown said during a press conference Friday that the “profession is hurting.”
In Tennessee, a man who was arrested after allegedly shooting at random passing cars and police on the highway told authorities he was fed up with violence against African Americans.
The Facebook group has over 200 members.
A call for calm and unity across the United States.
In what appeared to be his own Facebook page, Johnson was portrayed with the red, black and green flag sometimes known as the Black Liberation flag. His profile photo showed him with his clenched fist in the air in the familiar Black Power gesture.
A SNIPER who allegedly killed five police officers and injured seven others, as well as two bystanders, was a 25-year-old Army Reserve veteran.
The Texas resident served as an active reservist for six years from 2009 to 2015, holding the rank of Private First Class and specialising in carpentry and masonry, an Army statement said.
Details on how the shootings unfolded remained unclear.
He was eventually killed after negotiations didn’t work and an exchange of gunfire ensued. “All I know is that this must stop – this divisiveness between our police and our citizens”.
President Barack Obama, who had called the shootings “despicable”, has cut short a trip to Europe.
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said last night that the man suspected of killing the five police officers had acted alone.
Dallas police didn’t respond to a request for further information about their use of the robot. Kevin Giles, who was walking by, says he knew Johnson.
